Moonlighter

Moonlighter is a new action RPG game with some rouge-lite elements developed by ‘Digital Sun‘. It’s coming out the 29th of May on the Xbox One, PS4 and PC. It will also come out on the Nintendo Switch in 2018 but not exactly sure when. This action RPG looks real cool. Let’s take a look.

In the world of Moonlighter, players take control of a shopkeeper. That’s right, a shopkeeper who goes out daily to collect items for his shop. Who longs to go on a great adventure and be known as a hero. Looks like he’ll finally get his chance. Some gates were discovered during a archeological excavation which took place a long time ago. A small commercial village called Rynoka was founded near this same excavation site. Rynoka provided a place for adventurers to temporarily stay and sell the items and treasures they found. The people, including the shop keeper learnt that the ancient passages lead to different realms and dimensions.

Moonlighter

As a shopkeeper, players must manage shop. This means handling the shop finances, putting items on for sale and also setting their prices. Players can upgrade the shop, kind of like in Animal Crossing with Tom nooks shop. Make sure to also hire shop assistants. Like with a real store, you must be careful as some people might try to steal your stuff. Why can’t people be decent? So as you can see, it’s not just going out and adventuring but also handling a shop on a daily basis.

Like the shop, the village is loaded with different people in Moonlighter. Getting to know the villagers is essential as they reveal their needs as a customer. so the right information can help increase sales. Some villagers have big requests, requiring rare items that players have to seek out and bring back and in return that villager will pay you very generously. Also it’s with the villagers that players can do crafting to get new armour, weapons and even enchant certain items. Kind of reminds you of Minecraft.

Moonlighter

As mentioned before, there are many gates which lead to different dimensions and realms. This means they can take players anywhere, which means players must be prepared for everything, so carry equipment and items that covers a range of needs. The enemies vary greatly as well and that’s one thing Moonlighter so far does well, which is variety. Variety is very important for gamers. It was something the new God of War lacked with their bosses. Fighting a similar troll monster multiple times.

Do not forget. Amongst all the fighting and exploring, the main thing is to collect loot. Grab everything! Treasures, artifacts, valuable resources, armours and weapons. It’s all fair game. Not only that some found loot could be used to make you more powerful but you can also put some of these up in the store for the villagers and customers to buy and keep your shop alive and running smoothly.

Moonlighter

Off course, the enemies and bosses are not going to let us just walk around and grab all this loot. They need to be handled. Now Moonlighter has quite a surprisingly deep combat mechanics. All this combat depends on the interaction between enemies, weapons, secondary effects of items and abilities. So players need to get creative, find their own combat styles. Before you know it, players will invent their own combos and flow of actions. Not every enemy can be handled the same way.

We checked out some gameplay. Moonlighter firstly has some smooth animations for movement and combat. There are truly different enemies. some are squishy while others are hard and roll up into a ball. Use a bow and arrow, a bigger broadsword and more. Many items and abilities to use like instant escapes, gap leaping, blocking with shields, healing and much more. Even the history of the character is quite engaging. You can relate to the whole subject of putting duty and responsibilities first.

Overall Moonlighter is a very cool game. The story behind it all is very good and will relate to many gamers. The combat mechanics are quite deep and provide many options for players. the graphics are not that great for it’s style. the sounds and music are very good indeed. It’s creative how this game is designed. The developers ‘Digital Sun’ did a excellent job with this game. We at X35 Earthwalker look forward to seeing Moonlighter come out. Now not every adventure pays off but one thing that always pays off is… the ‘Earth Walk!’

Vampyr

Vampyr is a new action RPG developed by ‘DONTNOD Entertainment’. It is coming out the 5th of June  on the Xbox One, Play Station 4 and PC. There has been a lot of eyes on this game and quite an amount of hype for Vampyr. Let’s take a look.

In Vampyr, players take a control of a doctor named Jonathan E. Reid. He has been described as widely admired by his peers. A very good, in fact talented researcher and surgeon. Vampyr is set in London 1918 after the Great War. Jonathan Reid enlisted as a military doctor, so already we are sure that players can connect all the dots concerning the main character, the date in history and why this character is almost perfect for what he is going to face.

London has been severely damaged by the war and the Spanish flu is spreading rapidly infecting the citizens. The main goal in Vampyr is to find a cure for this flu and save London. This is not straight forward as when the war was dying down, Dr Reid got sent home… but on his way home he gets attacked  and loss consciousness. Losing consciousness in the streets is never a good thing. It never ends well. It’s almost as bad as losing consciousness on a park bench. Now the last thing Dr Jonathan E. Reid remembers is a ‘strange figure’ that’s slowly approaching his neck while murmuring a dark poem. Talk about creepy.

Vampyr

Jonathan Reid awakes with a terrible thirst for human blood. So now two cures are needed. The cure for the flu that’s spreading through London and a cure for his Vampyric condition. Good thing, he’s a doctor right?

As all should know a Vampyr has powers and abilities which Jonathan can use to defend London from other Vampyr and creatures which roam the streets at night. The problem with this though is that with normal vampires, generally the older they are, the stronger they are. So if we are assuming the same rules to Vampyrs then Dr Reid who is newly-turned will be too weak to beat others who have been around much longer. Which leads to another mechanic in the game which is to make Reid stronger. In the context of this game, that means you will have to feed but like any nice person who becomes a vampire, you don’t want to jump and harm people so hence the struggle and temptation.

Now London in 1918 is far more hectic than the history books in school tell us. Players are thrown into a major league battle. The enemies of Dr Reid are both humans and supernatural. Vampyrs, undead skals, Vampire hunters and other monsters are all involved. As stated before, getting stronger is key here but players can also develop and evolve their arsenal of supernatural vampire abilities. Now we could just snack on the blood of those things that roam the streets at night but their blood yields less power while the blood of the citizens that you set out to save will increase your strength rapidly. So will you harm them, or not?

Vampyr

The world in Vampyr is very much alive. Every character you engage with has a life. You can get involved with these lives, learn about it, their relationships and more. Each character has their own family, story and job. Take heed that if you effect one of these people then you effect the others. Players will need to feed to live long enough but there are consequences for that… always. Regardless of who you feed on, whether it’s a priest, thieves, parents, killers whoever, will have consequences.

We checked out some gameplay and it has quite a lot of what we thought. There is compass that grants information in terms of objectives, note worthy things and their direction. Simple display of information. Many parts of the city to explore and dig up lore. You will come across vampire hunters facing creatures in a battle which you could get involved in. In some ways it does remind us of Dying Light, especially in terms of how the AI move in combat. We see some of the powers of the Vampyr like dashing from one location to another in a blink of dark smoke, which is quite cool.

Overall Vampyr sounds like a good game. It doesn’t sound anything amazing though. We haven’t seen anything that makes us really want to know more. The story and setting is good and the world Vampyr is set in is very good and there is room for opportunity but we don’t see the consequences or pressure that the story gives. The enemies do not seem that impressive yet. It will come in June so there is time for things to get improved. The developers ‘DONTNOD Entertainment’ did a good job with this game. We at X35 Earthwalker are currently not interested in Vampyr. The story is very interesting but gameplay right now doesn’t seem up to par right now. We hope to see more of this game. Now Vampyrs may have a battle but the biggest battle is found in… the ‘Earth Walk!’

Warhammer 40000: Inquisitor - Martyr

Warhammer 40000: Inquisitor – Martyr is a new open-world sandbox action RPG developed by ‘NeocoreGames‘. It is coming out the 11th of May on the Xbox One, Play Station 4 and PC. The Inquisitor sounds like a dangerously powerful being. Le’s take a look.

The world of Warhammer 4000 is very big with a huge story going on but Warhammer 40000: Inquisitor – Martyr is the first action RPG in the world of Warhammer 40000. Now the focus in this story is all about the Inquisitors. They are up against mutants, dangerous Xenos, heretics and off course the daemons of the chaos gods. Now that’s a list and sounds too much but what kind of being is the Inquisitor? Inquisitors are monsters themselves in terms of legend and threat. They are powerful legendary secret agents of the Imperium. They come from different backgrounds and aren’t the same as each one has different areas where they specialise. Inquisitors have lots of big lots of firepower and with a wide range of unique skills. Simply they aren’t a joke.

Now Warhammer 40000: Inquisitor – Martyr is set in the Caligari Sector, a secluded region of the Imperium with many star systems, even more planets which contain a wide variety of mission types for players. The maps are randomly generated. This game aims to keep things going and rolling with the action. there are also mini campaigns and it has been said on their official website that the storyline was influenced by the community which is actually awesome. It’s great when developers get their community, fans and followers involved with the development in some way or form. So good job ‘NeocoreGames’ on that one.

Warhammer 40000: Inquisitor - Martyr

Even though the direction is quite different Warhammer 40000: Inquisitor – Martyr are not letting go of what it does well and does in other titles. For example this game will still have tactical elements meaning this shouldn’t be a walk in the park. Cover based combat is still here and definitely needed for survival. There are controllable vehicles just please make sure you guys have license because we at X35 Earthwalker are not afraid to sue. They claim to have a brand new AI. Probably coolest of them all is the fact that some attacks affect the environment and your surroundings as in break and blow stuff up. This off course adds a layer to the tactical side of the game as now some cover may get destroyed or additional ways to expose and turn the tide against enemies. Think about that.

Now what’s Warhammer 40000 without some blood and gore? Nothing. So it’s a good thing that Warhammer 40000: Inquisitor – Martyr has some. Not only can you enjoy brutalising your foes but large enemies are unfortunate enough to be susceptible to having their limbs destroyed if targeted well. So if their right arm has a large rocket launcher for example, then blow their arm of and no more rockets. Also this can lead to special executions of those foes which the developers have said are rewarding.

Warhammer 40000: Inquisitor - Martyr

Now Warhammer 40000: Inquisitor – Martyr isn’t all single player campaign. The Inquisitorial campaign has co-operative gameplay up to 4 players. Also players can join various Inquisitorial clans. So grab your friends build a clan and just dominate. There are world events for all to participate in and missions that if completed could have actually effects on the game it self, as in influencing the direction of the whole sector. We hear this sort of stuff quite a lot so we are going to see how Warhammer 40000: Inquisitor – Martyr will pull this off.

We checked out some gameplay and so far the game doesn’t look impressive. The sounds and graphics are good indeed but the gameplay just looks simple as of how it is right now. It currently looks like everything is too easy. Off course that should change with a higher difficulty. We do like the variety of enemies here, with some being fast while others are melee only stuff like that. The environments and the amount of cover available are great reminding us of Gears of war in some ways. There are many abilities at your disposal and multiple ways to handle situations. The game seems to run well and does have the tactical elements to it. Different classes to choose from and use with their own strengths and weaknesses. We at X35 Eathwalker just hope to see something very exciting and cool.

Overall Warhammer 40000: Inquisitor – Martyr is a very good game. It is a big with multiple things going on with some nice level designs and giving different experiences thanks to the random maps. Action is lively ad we do like what we see. Some fans are happy and even some of their suggestions have been taken on board and put into effect. The developers ‘NeocoreGames’ did an excellent job with this game. We at X35 Earthwalker need to see more, something that will make us think about even buying it but as it stands many will like it. Now Warhammer 40000: Inquisitor – Martyr may have inquisitors but they don’t compare to… the ‘Earth Walk!’

Sinner: Sacrifice for Redemption is a new action RPG developed by ‘Dark Star‘. It’s coming out the 18th of October 2018 on Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PS4 but later on the PC. Now this game has caught our attention and that means we just have to take a look.

The story in Sinner: Sacrifice for redemption is actually quite interesting. Basically players control Adam who has to face the incarnation of his greatest sins, all while making sacrifices to atone. Even worse Adam has lost his memories. It’s all about Adam trying to remember, understand and off course deal with his past. Now off course there is a bit more going on than just that as it’s only the central struggle…

Adam must also face 8 powerful bosses. Each demonic boss is off course stronger and more dangerous than the last but there is also a catch. Before each boss, players must decide which stat to decrease and level down! That’s right! You have to power down before each major boss clash. This alone raises some problems for players. What happens if you decide to reduce speed but the boss you are going to face requires speed and movement to beat him? We have a problem. Or what if a boss is about being hit real fast for that quick damage but you reduced strength? Oh Dear…

Sinner Sacrifice for redemption

Sinner: Sacrifice for redemption has had quite a number of inspirations. It’s said to be inspired by the Soul series, shadow of the colossus and some anime. Anything related to dark souls can only have one thing in common… being difficult. The soul games are about timing, knowing when to attack and then dodging those vicious attacks from enemies as just a few is all that’s needed to kill you. This should already cause some gamers to feel a bit uncomfortable.

Now what we do know about Sinner: Sacrifice for redemption. There are various weapons for players to get the hang of and master. Like with Monster Hunter: World these weapons have different ad antes which players must recognise and use whats best for each boss. There are some repayable features although we don’t know what they are. You can unlock new game modes, probably like boss rush or a amped up difficulty mode. Last of all we know that there are multiple endings which means, multiple play throughs and most likely decisions that players have to make. Almost like Dante’s inferno in a way.

We checked out some gameplay and this does remind us of Dark souls quite a lot. There are levels where you have to fight regular enemies, dodge powerful attacks and deal with crowds at some points as well. Then when you get to a boss things get much harder. The bosses are so different from each other and will force players to watch, learn, probably die and then hopefully triumph. We do know there is: Rose Paladin Rhodes, Healer Faiz Tilus and Countess Levin Undock. That’s only three of them though and all of them do look like a real problem.

Overall this game has interested us because for us it’s a combination of Dante’s Inferno and Dark souls. It’s going around the topic of sin but we can tell it’s not biblical so we won’t take it seriously. Combine that with the style of dark souls with some new concepts or the whole down grading thing just create quite a cool result. The graphics are nice, not excellent. The designs and environments are good indeed. The developers ‘Dark Star’ did a very good job with this. We at X35 Earthwalker are actually interested in this and will keep an eye out for this. Now some are fighting for redemption while we already have our sins paid for by Jesus. This game still ain’t on the level off… the ‘Earth Walk!’

Call of Cthulhu

Call of Cthulhu is a new Investigation RPG developed by ‘Cyanide Studio’. It’s coming out later this year for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC. This isn’t your typical Sherlock Holmes investigation story. this is something much darker. Let’s take a look.

Now this may be an investigation game but it isn’t as boring as it sounds. Call of Cthulhu has some stealth and psychological horror mechanics in it. Some have described Call of Cthulhu as a survival horror game as well. This should liven things up for gamers. Seriously when we first heard about this game we were so close to ignoring it because investigation and detective games were never our thing but Call of Cthulhu has gotten our attention.

In Call of Cthulhu you play Edward Pierce who is a former veteran and private investigator in Boston set in the 1920’s. Quite the interesting past. Edward is on a mission to find out what really happened concerning the death of an acclaimed artist and her family. The artists name is Sarah Hawkins. It doesn’t take long for the player to realise that a whole lot more is going on than a simple death or murder. Things get real dark as the ‘Great Dreamer’ called ‘Cthulhu’ prepares for his awakening (so is he asleep? if yes then how is he preparing his awakening?).

We checked out some gameplay and it did surprise us to quite an extent. The game looks very good visually. The rocks, the water. the creepy locations, the lighting all does a very good job at making players feel uneasy about where they are. There definitely is some horror aspect to the game but it’s clearly all psychological. Like players will question whether certain things are real or not. Then there are moments where the player has to leap into action like a good ol fashion chase or hiding and knowing when it’s safe to get moving again.

Overall ‘Call of Cthulhu’ is very interesting. It’s more than your typical detective game. The blend calm moments with orzo go well from what we have seen. The graphics and sounds are done very well indeed. The developers ‘Cyanide studio’ did an very good job with this game. We at X35 Earthwalker will keep an ear open for ‘Call of Cthulhu’. Now Cthulhu may be making preparations but he certainly ain’t prepared for… the ‘Earth Walk!’

Valkyria Revolution is part of the Valkyria series but considered a spin off. Valkyria Revolution was developed by ‘Media.Vision’ and is coming out June 27th (America) and June 30th (Europe) for the Xbox One, PS4 and PS Vita.

Now honestly we don’t know much about this game. We haven’t even heard of it but we have checked it out and so far it looks real good and interesting. In the trailer you see a big battle going on, people in armour with guns, then a giant mech like machine shows up and stands laying down some serious fire. Then a confident looking lady with a giant scythe stands there. She looks confident, bit cocky and had a serious entrance to the battle which means she’s powerful (in the fictional world). The two leaders on the other armies side prepares to take her on. From that trailer alone, you can pick up many things about Valkyria Revolution.

Valkyria Revolution is an RPG game with some focus on action (off course) and strategy. It won’t be turn based so stay on your guard. Amleth is the commanding officer of Jutland’s elite anti-Valkyria unit and is the character players control in Valkyria Revolution. There are more main characters like Brynhildr who is a Valkyria and is on the side of the Ruzhien Empire and Jutland’s princess Ophelia. Sorry guys but when we see the name ‘Brynhildr’ we think of the Eidolon from Final Fantasy 13, who was awesome by the way.

The action seems flow very well in Valkyria Revolution. You can switch between your characters with a click of the button to mix things up. Select and use side-arms and Ragnites during combat to dominate the field. In the trailer saw a smoke grenade like side arm which really smokes the place out. The graphics are very good in this game. The sounds are good. From what we have seen this looks very cool indeed. We hope to learn more about this game. Check it out for yourself to learn more.

Overall Valkyria Revolution has got our attention. The developers ‘Media.Vision’ did a great job. This game might be worth checking out. Whether you do or not just make sure… to do the ‘Earth Walk!’

Portal knights is a sandbox action-RPG adventure developed by ‘Keen Games’ coming out May 19th for the Xbox One and PS4 but already out on PC. Some have described this game as minecraft but more RPG and adventure. Let’s see for ourselves.

The story in this game is that the world was peaceful but something happened and tore it apart by ‘The Fracture’ which plummeted the world into darkness. No one remembers how it has been since that happened. You, the player must be the hero and unite the shattered world. Be the portal knight. That’s basically it. Nice simple and that means we will have to craft out own adventure.

Now yes, straight away you as soon as you see the game, Minecraft will pop into your head, which is a good thing. This means crafting is a feature here. You can build your own base, castle, lair, hideout, it doesn’t matter. Just build yourself a mighty and spacious fortress to call your own. Level up your character as you go through the lands to become stronger and more of a force to be taken seriously. Your character has attributes like strength, wisdom, agility and more so decide what kind of character you want, whether tanky or mobility.

There are many lands to explore and traverse. There are caves, lakes and dungeons. As you travel, collect resources for crafting. Battle many enemies with different weapons and spells. Study your enemies and learn when to attack and when to dodge. We heard the movements have been stepped up from the initial released game. Traditionally you can pick between: Mage, Ranger and Warrior. Customise your gear, appearance and abilities while also unlocking new abilities as you level up. Collect portal stone shards to build portal stones and build the portals which allow you to reach and travel to different areas.

Give your character some character (see what we did there?) with emotes like the one which shows your portal knight charging up with fire which does look cool. There’s another emote which makes your portal knight wave and do a little jump around. If that wasn’t enough then get your portal knight a pet. That’s right. Pet’s like a cat for example are ready to be owned. There are over 100 items to craft and you can even build furniture so why not get a fine couch to get lazy on after a hard fought battle. Just saying.

The biggest threats are the portal guardians. They are said to be huge, powerful epic bosses. We have seen a ice dragon, a giant ground catepillar like thing and more. The bosses are definitely huge indeed and look interesting. This shouldn’t be a problem though as Portal Knights is all about playing with your friends. as it’s 4 player co-op. You can team up with mates and work together to destroy the portal guardians, collect resources and build fortresses and giant structures together.

We have checked out some gameplay and from what we have seen the game looks real cool. The worlds look very big and has a lot to explore. The attention to detail is very good. There is so much stuff in each world. Even the vegetation have a lot going on. The skies could look better though as they seem a bit grainy but that’s minor. The portal knights should move faster in our opinion. They are too slow. The environments have variety and look great. The battles seem easy to control and flows quite nicely. This is one of those games that you need to check out and see gameplay for yourself. The graphics are very good and some areas look nice and colourful. The sounds of the weapons, attacks, actions and enemies are all good.

Overall this is definitely a good game and many gamers have good things to say about the original PC release. It looks fun and you can’t get mad at co-op. More games need this. Very glad that it’s now going to be available to console gamers, this means we can actually try the game ourselves. The developers ‘Keen Games’ did a very good job with this game. Portal Knights is worth checking out. Whether you like to craft or not… just make sure you do the ‘Earth Walk!’
