X35 Earthwalker Assassin's Creed Shadows

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is a stealth/action adventure game developed and published by ‘Ubisoft’. Assassin’s Creed Shadows is said to be coming out the 15th of November 2024 on the Xbox Series X, PC and PS5. X35 Earthwalker is looking for the assassin’s creed game that brings him back into the series. Assassin’s Creed Shadows is out here trying to be that game. Let’s take a look. [This G blog will be a different style as so much information on this game is already out]

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is set in Japan. So Assassin’s Creed fans finally get what they’ve been asking for, for years. Ubisoft had a lot of thinking to do concerning this game and what type of Assassin’s Creed game they wanted to make. What do we mean? Very simple. Assassin Creed has two types. Stealth focused and action focused. The earlier Assassin’s Creed games were clearly more stealth based. Hide, blend in, watch the movement of the enemies and make your move. Then escape after assassinating target. The action Assassin’s Creed games were mainly your character straight up facing all the foes in the open and besting them in combat with some crazy abilities. There was still stealth mechanics but most just got up in there and started swinging.

X35 Earthwalker Assassin's Creed Shadows

Here’s the problem. Most of the older Assassin’s Creed fans have been calling for a return to stealth as the the most recent Assassin’s Creed games were all action really. So bring back stealth right? Well sales and money show that the most successful Assassin’s Creed games were the action ones. More players, more fame, more attention and more money. So many fans want the original but less popular but action makes the most money… which is the aim of EVERY business… making more money. So Ubisoft said screw it, let’s do both. This is the biggest strength and factor of Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

X35 Earthwalker Assassin's Creed Shadows

Assassin’s Creed Shadows has TWO protagonists. Primary main character is Naoe and secondary main character is Yasuke. Naoe is the assassin. So all the sneaking, hiding, stealth kills and being one with the shadows is her. Yasuke is actually a real person in history. The first black samurai in Japan. He is the all action guy. As he said, kick down the front door, just face the foes and smash them. This solves the problem. So now stealth players can pick Naoe and be all stealth as much as they want while action players can just five into the action, no hiding with Yasuke. So that should shit up all the complaining.

In Assassin’s Creed Shadows, players can switch between both characters for the missions. So you could play through the whole game as Naoe for stealth then in your second play through got all action and vice versa. Or you can mix it up and change mission by mission basis. You can even be like Larry who played a whole mission with Naoe, failed at the very end and just switched to Yasuke for the replay and tear everyone up. It’s up to you. Players love having options. So this move ticks of multiple boxes.

X35 Earthwalker Assassin's Creed Shadows

X35 Earthwalker believes that Assassin’s Creed Shadows will be the best Assassin’s Creed game yet. The combat with Yasuke is detailed. There is dodging, the heaviest attacks ever, armour and destruction of armour pieces, special attacks, blocks and even parries. It’s a full combat system. Uasuke feels incredibly powerful and smashes through his foes. Almost unstoppable. Naoe is not just stealth but the best stealth. She can can use projectiles to take out light sources, creating more shadows and darkness for he to hide and move through. She can hide up on the ceiling with plunger like tools. She can breathe underwater thanks to a reed or similar tube that pokes up to the surface granting her air. Naoe has new mechanics. Both characters are powerful in their own unique ways and clearly effective. Don’t underestimate Naoe in a fight and don’t underestimate Yasuke’s versatility as he has more than one weapon.

X35 Earthwalker Assassin's Creed Shadows

Disgusting but expected is the amount of hatred Assassin’s Creed Shadows got all because of one black person… Yasuke. Same with Angrboda in god of war ragnarok. So much racism today and it’s from the usual suspects each time. Yasuke is a real person who became a samurai in japan. Majority of historical websites including Britannica has stated that he’s a samurai as well with text and other historical evidence. Yasuke is famous in Japan and is in many Japanese media from books and stories to animations and shows. He’s even portrayed and showed as a samurai warrior in other games like Nioh. No issues with Yasuke then but the moment he’s shown in assassin’s creed shadows, all the racists suddenly became Japanese historians and posted racist memes and drawings and used hateful speech on Facebook, X and instagram. disgusting but evil is predictable. There has even been some white people exposed for pretending to be Japanese online to attack yasuke. Even the top voices of a so called Japanese petition to cancel the game were both white guys… not even Japanese. Now there’s a Japanese senator or whatever who is going against the game… for what reason besides yasuke. The hate is real. X35 Earthwalker has podcast episodes explaining and debunking these foolish things. Also a youtuber made a video where he proved with Japanese text that Yasuke is a samurai. Check those out below:

First podcast episode – https://open.spotify.com/episode/1Nm27YHAuqEg6PW22N2YjG

Second podcast episode – https://open.spotify.com/episode/2MgFNXU6SWGpDeTxlh91M4

We checked out some Assassin’s Creed Shadows gameplay and it’s what we expected. Exploring Japan, standing up for the people, marking targets and getting information on said targets. Use a horse for traversing the place. The lighting in this game is impressive. It makes the moments sneaking around with Naoe more beautiful and intense. The flames and light sources are excellently done here. As the game gets closer to release date, animations , character interactions and details will be stepped up. The gameplay Ubisoft showed is obviously not the final product. Also Assassin’s Creed Shadows is not $130. That’s a lie. The ultimate edition is $130 while the standard is $70 like many other games. So much hate towards this game. It’s sad. This is the first Assassin’s Creed game in a long time that has actually interested us. Assassin’s Creed Shadows might be the game to bring us back in.

Overall Assassin’s Creed Shadows looks like it’s going to be a fantastic game. This will be the best Assassin’s Creed game. Both Assassin’s Creed styles and even completely new mechanics. Now the biggest factor will be the huge amounts of racist who are trying so hard to lead a campaign against this game. Ignoring those fools, Assassin’s Creed Shadows is going to be successful. It has all components needed for it. The developers ‘Ubisoft’ have done a fantastic job so far. We at X35 Earthwalker will keep an eye out for this game. Now Assassin’s Creed Shadows may have two protagonists but those two aren’t enough for… the ‘Earth Walk!’

Hello Neighbor 2 X35 Earthwalker

Hello Neighbor 2 is a stealth ‘horror’ game developed by ‘Eerie Guest’ and ‘Tiny Build‘ and published by ‘Tiny Build’. Hello Neighbor 2 is said to be coming out the 6th of December 2022 on the Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4 and PC. Hello Neighbor was fun but disappointing in some cases. X35 Earthwalker waits to see if Hello Neighbor 2 does better. Let’s take a look.

Hello Neighbor 2 is described as a horror game but let’s be honest… Hello Neighbor isn’t scary at all. Nothing about it is scary. They should remove ‘horror’ from the description. Hello Neighbor 2 has the same formula and style, except it’s much bigger. You all have to go full detective mode, travel around the area, sneak, take, unlock and find to progress. It’s a mystery for sure as to what’s going on. There’s also a bird man. Yep. You heard right… or read right. It already looks like a complete step up from the first game. You love to see it. YES, YOU DO!

Hello Neighbor 2 X35 Earthwalker

Hello Neighbor 2 has a new enemy. The bird man. This guy is easily worse than the Neighbor. A much bigger threat. This guy is faster, far more active and has more abilities in an earlier demo. We hope his abilities carry over. From what we saw, of an earlier demo, the bird man is real fast and is always running around. He doesn’t even walk. He hardly stops for anything unless it’s to pick things up. Which is the other other big ability. He grabs items and will move with them. Either takes it in the house or… throw it at you. The bird man can hurl objects, that you can pick up, at you to know you down so he can get you. This guy isn’t joking… and neither is Hello Neighbor 2. This guy will throw trash at you to knock you down just so he can grab you. Again, this was in the demo.

Hello Neighbor 2 X35 Earthwalker

We checked out some Hello Neighbor 2 gameplay and it’s what we expected. We do need to see a more clear improvement of graphics and visuals. We will be keeping an eye out for attention to details. We like that there’s more going on. There’s police, residents, businesses and more. There’s even expansions on the way which would bring in new characters too. The bird man even has equipment. He will be on the hunt and you will notice it as well. A bigger world with puzzles must mean there are stuff to look out for. Collectibles maybe… or components. What exactly is it? X35 Earthwalker finds the answer obvious but hey he’s way smarter than the average smart person.

Overall Hello Neighbor 2 looks like it’s going to be a good game. The last one did the story terribly and left it madly incomplete and unsatisfactory. Hello Neighbor 2 needs to do the story much better and we believe it will. There’s more to say but we are keeping this one shorter. Hello Neighbor 2 has more room now to work with. Hope the devs don’t waste it. the developers ‘Eerie Guest’ and ‘Tiny Build’ have done a good job so far. We at X35 Earthwalker will have to see what this game truly has in store. Now Hello Neighbor 2 may have a bigger better world but it’s far to small for… the ‘Earth Walk!’

X35 Earthwalker Winter Ember

Winter Ember is a stealth actin game developed by ‘Sky Machine studios‘ and published by ‘Blowfish studios‘. Winter Ember is said to be coming out the 19th of April on the Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4 and PC. Winter Ember is coming quietly and plans to stand out with subtle details. X35 Earthwalker likes good useful details. Let’s take a look.

Winter Ember is set in a “victorian-esque” world. Players control a character called Arthur Artorias. He’s described as a faceless man. He is on a mission. Hunting for answers and revenge. Basically Arthur has been exiled for almost a decade. He now returns to the city called Anargal. This is where it all happened. Where he was stripped of his family, fortune and past. It’s time for action. Maybe quiet action though.

X35 Earthwalker Winter Ember

Now there’s a problem. A group called ‘greater heaven’ have taken control of the city. This group is tyrannical. They are militant and religious. You are no match for them in a head up battle. So this is where the stealth comes into play in Winter Ember. Sneak along the beams of houses and buildings. Go from shadow to shadow. Camp around a corner like it’s Call of duty and then pick your moment to strike. Cut down the number of enemies before getting into a brawl with them. There’s a lot built around the stealth mechanics and factor in Winter Ember.

X35 Earthwalker Winter Ember

There’s going to be a number of places and things to explore. Even hidden passageways. So get exploring. Stop being a coward. Be almost one with the darkness. Those corners must be hugged. We do like what we are seeing concerning the arrows that Arthur can have access too. The arrow crafting system in Winter Ember is deep. It’s said that there’s over 30 different arrows for players to craft. For example there’s a water missile arrow which can be used to extinguish fires and flames which off course creates dark areas for you to sneak in. There’s arrows with ropes, so you can reach high up areas. There’s smoke arrows that can be used to blind enemies. What about a poisonous arrow? Well… get crafting.

X35 Earthwalker Winter Ember

We checked out some Winter Ember gameplay and it’s not exactly what we expected. there’s real combat. You can face enemies head on. Pick your fights wisely. There’s lots of mysterious to discover and uncover. There’s also lots of treasure too. You must increase your visibility by direct sight. If you haven’t seen it, then you don’t know what’s there. Peep through key holes to spot enemies who might ambush you. There’s three different skill trees: Stealth, utility and combat. There’s over 70 different active and passive abilities for players to obtain and use for their revenge. We do like what they have done here.

Overall Winter Ember looks like a good game. We like that Winter Ember is trying to stand out with details. for example you can knock out an enemy but then that enemy will eventually wake up. Instead you can kill the enemy by slicing their throat. They stay dead but other guards or people will see and be alerted by the blood stain or mess you made on the floor, wall or carpet. Characters actually recognise blood and that something is wrong. The developers ‘Sky Machine studios’ have done a very good job so far. We at X35 Earthwalker will have to listen for what this game brings.

Hood: Outlaws & Legends is a new multiplayer, action, stealth game developed by ‘Sumo Digital‘ and published by ‘Focus Home Interactive‘. Hood: Outlaws & Legends is said to be coming out in 2021 on the Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PS5, PS4 and PC. Hood: Outlaws & Legends is definitely doing something different concerning the concept. Let’s take a look.

Hood: Outlaws & Legends is set in a violent medieval place with an oppressive government. It’s being called a state. This place is crazy though as there are rebels, scum, thieves… basically outlaws out here and they are making some moves. Simply put, it’s Robin Hood. Hood: Outlaws & Legends is based on a rare concept that’s not easy to do right. There’s so many rival gangs and are trying to steal from the rich to give to the poor which will of course gain the support of the oppressed people. These gangs are competing against each other while off course the rich will want to protect what’s theirs too.

So it’s basically a three way battle in Hood: Outlaws & Legends. The guards of the rich/soldiers vs the players and their team vs other players and their team. That’s right. While you are sneaking around, assassinating soldiers and making your way to the goods. There are other players doing the exact same thing with their team. You might be hunting or being hunted. The treasure is right there and the area looks clear but they could be right there hiding. Waiting for you to turn your back. So it’s PvEvP. The game has a saying, “We are all outlaws… but some of us will become legends.” You need to prove you are the best. This concept does remind us of Hunt: Showdown. Hood: Outlaws & Legends is a fight but also a race.

Since Hood: Outlaws & Legends is also a stealth game and dangerous A.I enemies are around, you need a plan. It’s like trying to rob a big super secure bank (obviously not as difficult). Running through the front door scream with weapons out is a bad move for sure. Each character in your squad have their own skills and “mystical abilities”. So know your characters, know the situation and know what needs to be done and who ought to do it. Now when it comes to facing the other players, there’s where things will get loud. Think of it sort of like ‘For Honour’ where you need to judge your distance and timing very well to get the hits on your enemy and back off, evade etc. So mix it up out there.

There isn’t that much on Hood: Outlaws & Legends. The concept and past games tells you everything you need to know. It’s a team based game for the most part. Whether you need a group of friends or if there’s matchmaking, we don’t know. So pick your character, have your team, sneak around towards the objective, take out guards and get the goods. Most likely running into the other teams of players. How many teams per match or world, we don’t know either. Just prepare for a fight.

We checked out the Hood: Outlaws & Legends trailer and it gives a good idea of what to expect and it’s what we expected. It’s definitely more brutal than we thought though. There appears to be executions of some sort. Weapons with special effects, possibly stuns. Not clear if there’s a penalty for losing an ally. Is there permalinks death? Who knows.

Overall Hood: Outlaws & Legends looks like an alright game for now. It has potential to be much better and very good but only when we see more. The concept is rare and difficult to pull off. There’s many factors. The developers ‘Sumo Digital’ have done an alright job so far. We at X35 Earthwalker will have to see what Hood: Outlaws & Legends becomes. Now Hood: Outlaws & Legends may have a brutal battle of outlaws but those outlaws are just children in comparison to… the ‘Earth Walk!’

HITMAN 3 is a new stealth game developed and published by ‘IO Interactive‘. HITMAN 3 is said to be coming out in January 2021 on the Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PS4, PlayStation 5 and PC. HITMAN 3 has been described as the conclusion to the assassination trilogy. Things are about to get real serious in the assassination world. Let’s take a look.

What’s the story in HITMAN 3? Well Agent 47, aka baldi, is back and this time he’s handling the most important contracts of his assassinating ‘career’. This time something is different. Sure he is being backed up by his agency handler Diana Burnwood… BUT!… he is working together with his long lost friend Lucas Grey. Teams overall are better than solo. The words “Death awaits” is a recurring thing and we are not sure why. Maybe HITMAN 3 is the game where agent 47 dies. Maybe not. After all will no one not notice and want revenge?

Now this mission that agent 47 is on is suppose to be the most important ones yet. The goal is to wipe out the partners of Providence. When you make your target people like the partners of Providence then you know real trouble is coming your way. You don’t wipe out one important person and think nothing bad will happen to you. As you carry out your mission, things will get harder and harder. The action will become more intense.

Expect a lot of scenery and environment as your mission takes you across the world. Sandbox locations included. Now the theme of freedom is quite strong with this game. A good number of these  modern games especially lately and with next gen aim to have open world and more freedom for players. This is a quote from the developers website, “We’ve made sure that players will have unrivalled freedom to complete their objectives and the game world will react to everything they do. All of this is made possible by our award-winning Glacier technology, which powers HITMAN 3’s immersive game world to offer unparalleled player choice and replayability.”. Multiple gems have tried the whole consequence thing. We think HITMAN 3 has the world and setting to do it. Just don’t mess up developers.

We were never fans of the HITMAN series but from our experience with the games like HITMAN Absolution we know they are good games overall. HITMAN 3 won’t function as one game. In HITMAN 3, players can play all three games and carry some content over. There’s a whole section explaining this on their website so we will just quote it here, “The World of Assassination trilogy is fully realised with HITMAN 3 and we are establishing our new game as the ultimate place to play all three games. Players of our previous HITMAN games will be pleased to know that it will be possible to ‘import’ locations that they own from the previous two HITMAN games into HITMAN 3, essentially putting all 20+ locations from the entire trilogy in one place. Playing the entire trilogy from beginning to end, from within HITMAN 3, also means that the progression systems in HITMAN 3 work across all locations. You can unlock an item in Dubai and take it with you to Paris, for example. We’re pleased to say that HITMAN 2 players will have the option to carry over their hard-earned unlocks and progression into HITMAN 3.”

We checked out some HITMAN 3 gameplay and it looks like another HITMAN game. The graphics are great, the environments are excellent. Same formula so far. You know what you got to do and you sneak around. You stay undetected, pay attention to routes, blind spots, hiding places,  using everything to your advantage. You have different disguises and stuff to wear but ultimately the prize is that kill. It’s HITMAN… what do you want from us? It’s not suddenly going to be Halo. Off course more information is going to come out.

Overall HITMAN 3 just seems like another HITMAN game but obviously bigger, more action, more intense, consequences to your actions, allies, three games in one, carry over content, more freedom and whatever extra they be bringing. HITMAN 3 has a big opportunity here so don’t waste it. Now the developers ‘IO Interactive’ have done a very good job so far. We at X35 Earthwalker will leave an ear open for what HITMAN 3 be up to. Now HITMAN 3 may be sneaking up on gamers but one thing it can’t sneak up on is… the ‘Earth Walk!’

Metro Exodus

Metro Exodus is the new action adventure game developed by ‘4A Games‘ but published by ‘Deep Silver‘. It is coming out the 22nd of February 2019 on the Xbox One, PS4 and PC. The Metro Exodus world is said to be very immersive and have some survival features.

In the world of Metro Exodus is a messed up one. It’s post apocalyptic, there are dangerous factions, mutants and more danger all around. Metro Exodus doesn’t have a simple story either. This game’s campaign will stretch across a whole year and so players will face the four seasons: Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. Players will once again take control of Artyom. That ranger who was hanging out in Moscow’s underground metro system. This time he is trying to get out of Moscow. He wants a better life. Sounds simple but off course it won’t be. This time something is different…

Metro Exodus

The game is more like an open sandbox. Players have more options now than the previous Metro games. Exploration is needed as there are both linear and non linear objectives. So basically side quests. Thanks to the nuclear wars in the past, players will have to survive and fight through a completely ruined country. Stealth is still a factor in this game. There are times when running and gunning may just get you killed. Especially with the type of enemies that’s running around. What’s also different is that Artyom will be leading a team this time. They are called the spartan rangers. Now from what we know, players will need to be careful as you can lose people permanently.

There are a number of characters in Metro Exodus like Anna, who is the best sniper of the spartan order. Duke, who is the youngest of the spartan rangers and most eager. Miller, who is the commander of the aurora and quite militant. Alyosha is basically the scout and survival expert. Tokarev, is basically the tech guy in terms of building weapons and maintenance. There are more characters out there so players should look forward to learning about them.

Metro Exodus

A game like Metro Exodus and it’s world needs a variety of weapons and so far there is a couple. There is the Shambler shot gun which is basically an unstable shotgun that has way more firepower. The Tikhar is basically a sniper rifle that uses ball bearings but with the right tuning can use incendiary rounds. The Helsing which stands out from other weapons is basically the stealth crossbow which can also fire explosive arrows (because why not?). There are more weapons and we hope so as big games like this with big worlds need a lot of weapons and variety.

Lastly let’s look at the enemies. There are human enemies who are divided by factions like the children of the forest who have their own lore. Basically they are a group of children who got stranded at a scout camp because of the war. Their camp teacher is their leader and they learnt how to survive and adapt in the wilderness of Moscow. It makes you wonder about the other factions that are around. Also if you though human enemies were the only thing to worry about then you are dead wrong. There are wolves too and these wolves are vicious and one by itself is said to be a threat if not careful so imagine what happens when a pack comes along. Oh there are bears by the way and they should be avoided.

Metro Exodus

But wait… there’s more! There are also mutants. You now the whole nuclear chemical make mutants thing. Metro Exodus has some. Shrimps are mutated crustaceans who hang out near water. The females hang out in groups in the water and can spit corrosive mucus while the males travel solo, have more armour on their legs, can block incoming fire and crush you in melee fashion. The Demon is basically a large flying beast who can pick up any enemy it wants with it’s great strength. It can off course fly around, attack dealing heavy damage, pick you up and ruin your whole life. The metro residents have even described The Demon as one of the deadliest creatures around. It has been advised to avoid fighting this thing.

The Humanimal are creatures that have come from real humans. They function and act like apes (apparently) being able to use rocks and wood like weapons. They also can be found in groups and if you make noise, they get aggressive and come for you (you could have guessed that). The Nosalis are like giant rats but worse off course. They are agile and very fast. They can even run along walls and ceilings to get to you. They have nests and are aggressive. They can be found above and below the ground. The Watchman is the most common enemy you will encounter most likely. They travel in packs and have the ability to call for help and reinforcements.  We truly hope there are more enemies though. This world has potential to be creative and even scary.

We checked out some gameplay and so far it definitely looks clean in terms of how it plays and looks. There is some hint of horror and scares depending on the player. The wolves definitely look good. The game better be difficult and not hold your hand. The graphics and sounds are very good. Hopefully leading a group of spartans doesn’t make things walk in the park. From what we have seen everything looks good so far. Just wonder how frequent enemy encounters are and how effective and essential is stealth in Metro Exodus.

Overall, Metro Exodus seems like a good game. There needs to be a lot to do and a reason for exploring besides just objectives. The developers ‘4A Games’ did a very good job with this game. We at X35 Earthwalker look forward to seeing what Metro Exodus has to offer. Now Metro Exodus may have a ruined world but one thing that will never be ruined is… the ‘Earth Walk!’

mark of the ninja remastered

Mark of the Ninja: Remastered is the off course the remastered and new action stealth game developed by ‘Klei Entertainment‘. Mark of the Ninja: Remastered is coming out on the Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PS4 and PC the 9th of October 2018.

The story in Mark of the Ninja: Remastered is basically that a unnamed ninja is given a special ink tattoo which grants him increased senses and reflexes, which isn’t worth it if you ask us. The downside of the tattoo is that the bearer will eventually descend into madness and get deranged. A heavily armed group show up at the dojo and attacks. The unnamed ninja is awoken by a female ninja named Rio, who when he gets up saves multiple members. Eventually both Rio and the ninja are ordered to take revenge for the attack. So a revenge story with tattoos.

mark of the ninja remastered

So since it’s remastered, gamers can expect 4k resolution on supported hardware. Also expect cinematic scenes to also be in 4k too. There is 5.1 surround mix for the whole game. Make sure you put your headsets on. Additional information says that the in game audio uses high quality compression and that the cinematic audio has been completely redone. So this is something for players to experience personally themselves.

Now less about the little obvious stuff and what’s new about Mark of the Ninja: Remastered? Well the biggest thing is the new special edition DLC called Dosan’s tale which allows players to control Dosan. In this content there is new and unique items. Also a additional story level and unlocked developer commentary. What’s also new we believe is that there is a new game plus which allows players to go again, taking on new challenges and options. Each level in the whole game has collectibles, unlockable abilities and optional missions.

Mark of the Ninja: Remastered

We checked out some gameplay of Mark of the Ninja: Remastered and it looks very good so far. The animations of the unnamed ninja is very good. We like how mobile the main character is. You can use the environment to your advantage, you can make enemies panic. There are executions, there are time freeze moments allowing for targeted throws and more. The action is smooth and things look good. There are a lot of options and players can choose to go through without killing anyone or just straight up executing all.

Overall Mark of the Ninja: Remastered looks like a very good game. We like games that combine both action and stealth and grants the choice and rewards both. The developers ‘Klei entertainment’ did a good job with this game. We at X35 Earthwalker are not looking forward to this game as we haven’t seen anything that makes us want to play Mark of the Ninja: Remastered but we see that it’s definitely a good game. Now Mark of the Ninja: Remastered may have been improved but it’s still nothing compared to… the ‘Earth Walk!’

Metal Gear Survive

Metal Gear Survive has gotten some gamers talking, especially the fans of the Metal Gear series. Off course Metal Gear Survive was developed by Konami. The beta for Metal Gear Survive has been out for a good short time. X35 Earthwalker himself has played the beta allowing us a taste of what is to come. Let’s take a look.

As you are reading this, remember that it is a beta and not a full release so things can get better. The beta let’s you select and customise to some extent your avatar, basically your character. So choose from male or female, then change the hair but restricted to short hair, following the style of the military, face, cheek, eyes etc. Hopefully we will get more options for customising our avatars in the full release. When you enter you are in this space that makes you feel like you are inside a computer. There you can organise and select your inventory, craft items, repair stuff like weapons etc. it’s like the central hub for everything. The action starts when you begin your first salvage mission.

In salvage missions your job is to plant the wormhole digger which harvests energy. The harvesting always seems to attracts the creatures. So players must defend the wormhole digger at all times. The creatures will come in waves and each wave gets more difficult with more mixture of creature types and watching the timer for the wave to end doesn’t help. The drill will start automatically so make sure to get there and organise yourself or team if playing with others. You have a good amount of time, five minutes, to actually look around the map first which is highly recommended. as you look around you will come objects that can be destroyed for materials, like drums for iron, boxes for wood plus other stuff within, trees for wood and solid energy plant like things which when broken drop energy; however those things require a heavy weapon to smash like the mallet. Collect as much as you can.

Metal Gear Survive - X35 Earthwalker

You can use whatever is in your inventory to your advantage, so build up fences, plant mines, set traps etc, whatever that will help you get through the wave. There is one horrible catch though. At the end of the wave a shockwave blasts out from the machine that kills all remaining enemies but also destroys the stuff you set up like traps, mines, heavy machine guns etc. we actually hate this mechanic. So if you get carried away and fully set up using almost everything for the first wave, you will lose it all and have nothing for the later waves. This is something we recommend shouldn’t be in the Metal Gear Survive. So please don’t Konami. What they did do right was the controls. Each d-pad direction has their own section of items or weapons. There is much things you can equip and selecting between them is very easy. Just cycle through with your d-pad and then use your action buttons accordingly. It takes only a little time to get use to.

Now in the level available in the beta, creatures can come from many directions. North, East, South and West. There is no mercy in this game either and that’s how it should be done. The creatures will all be running towards your location, all trying to get to the machine. So expect, Wanderers, Bombers and variants of the wanderers. The Wanderers are your typical zombies that we all know and hate. They can sprint but when near you they act slow and typical, swinging at you. The bombers are the biggest threats and must be handled straight away. They are pretty much always running and as the name suggests they can explode doing immense damage to players and your traps, fences etc so don’t let them get close. They can even head butt you! There are some variants of the wanderers like the armoured one who has good armour meaning attacks are much less effective. Their is another that has explosives strapped to it and will explode so watch out. By the way the weakness for a bomber is their legs, so don’t waste all your armour trying unloading on their heads. not worth it.

Metal Gear Survive makes it also that you have to be careful with how you use your weapons and items. You hand gun will never have enough ammo to handle the entire wave, you players must decide which enemies are worth using the bullets on. Should you fire to fin out a crowd, or do you use a molotov to set them on fire? Do you get melee with them using your spears, axes, and blades or do you wait until they gather and then use a planted heavy machine gun? Maybe the best thing to do is to run up to an enemy and do a powerful sprint strike with a mallet. So many decisions. It gets worse as you have to prioritise what which enemies over others, which traps to use this wave (since everything gets destroyed). Stealth killing the creatures feels really good here. just get behind them and let them have it but take into account that running creates the most noise, then walking, then crouching but going prone makes zero noise but you are slowest then. The rewards you get for passing a mission are very generous, you get a lot of stuff which allows you to replenish ammo, repair weapons and gear and get more thing. We like the rewards here.

Konami went real deep with the in game mechanics of Metal Gear Survive. There isn’t just only health, there is also your thirst and hunger. Meaning you have to make sure to have food and drink available. your stats can be seen from the main menu which looks awesome by the way. Keep track of all these things. Now when it comes to your equipment and weapon they all have weight. That’s right watching your weight isn’t just for real life but also in Metal Gear Survive. Being too heavy will cause you some problems on the field…. remember that. Straight away you can see that the graphics are excellent in Metal Gear Survive. The attention to detail is pretty cool as well like the markings and rust on some materials is all cool. Notice that when cycling through and selecting in the menu menu, your characters thumb moves as well showing that your actions control your character interacting with the device. Little stuff like that make a big difference in our books here at X35 Earthwalker. Real cool.

Metal Gear Survive main menu - X35 Earthwalker

The rewards you get for completing each salvage mission is great. Lots of materials allowing players to replenish and gear up for the next ones and then some. So they did well with that. it makes using your traps and items that you spent resources to build not a problem as you can easily make more after missions. The side missions that appear are definitely worth completing while on the salvage missions. Diamondz L45 stayed at the base to defend while X35 Earthwalker went to a side mission and found some machines that walk, run over enemies and has a heavy machine gun attached which easily cleared out the zombies saving them in that wave. So go for side missions when you can as they make a big difference, you may get mortars, heavy machine guns and other fancy stuff.

The Metal Gear Survive beta showed many things and done it’s job right. It showed that players have to be aware of what enemies are coming and how to deal with them efficiently. It showed that weight, health, hunger and thirst are factors here. It showed that crafting and maintenance of your equipment is important. It showed the wide range of weapons that can be used. it showed how dangerous the enemy is and how merciless the waves can be. Co-op mode is definitely where it’s at, get some friends and defend together. Spend energy for support at the wormhole digger or bonuses like speeding up the digging. Timing is also important, for example if you attack an enemy but you get interrupted by an creature’s attack, your attack won’t go through. So using a mallet is powerful and will destroy all but so slow that it becomes easy to interrupt. So choose wisely and get your distance right or get swarmed by the horde. There is so much going on in Metal Gear Survive.

Overall the beta did what it was suppose to do. It gave us a serious taste of what’s to come and showed off many strong points of the game. Off course there are some negatives: destroying all our stuff at the end of the wave, the crafting system and what materials you have in and outside of missioned what in storage is actually quite confusing, you think you have enough materials but then it shows you have nothing in a mission and we think that should be made more clear. Connection gets unstable at times but ti’s a beta so we won’t stone them for it just yet. The parry ability is very clear and how it works and the timing at all. They need to make the whole ammo on person or in storage thing more clear too. Metal Gear Survive looks like a special game right now. We at X35 Earthwalker can say that we are looking forward to this game and that Konami has so far done an outstanding job. You can even choose what your character says and have emotes like in Destiny 2 but not as large selection yet. Metal Gear Survive is worth checking out. Now there is lots to do but not more than… the ‘Earth Walk!’

Hello Neighbor

Hello Neighbor was one of those games that many looked forward to. It had a lot of hype and man was there a lot of content on youtube concerning this game from CoryxKenshin, Markiplier, 8-Bit Ryan and more. There was quite a lot theories being made as well. Even Game Theory got in on the action. There were multiple betas for the gamers to play and some alphas. The developers Dynamic Pixels truly did work hard on this game. We are going to talk about the disappointing stuff about Hello Neighbor. The stuff we didn’t like.

Now the difficulty of puzzles and the amount of thinking increases drastically with each Act. The sad part is that there is only three acts. We at X35 Earthwalker and some others thought there would be more. The game is actually quite short if you cut out all the time you spend on puzzles. It makes us wonder if there will be DLC in the future maybe. We actually expected a bigger adventure, more missions etc but we aren’t the developers. Now off course there were many glitches and issues but they weren’t game stopping glitches. The most annoying one is when you walk through items or boxes and then you get launched into the air for some reason. The funniest one was when X35 Earthwalker threw a box at a window to break the window but instead the box went right through the window with breaking the glass. We caught that on livestream.

There isa seed in Act three that you can plant and then it grows into large tree which is suppose to give us an item when fully grown. Sounds great but the problem is that the tree takes forever to grow. It has been stated that it takes 3 actual hours to grow completely. Three hours! That’s stupid. We ain’t got that kind of time to chill in Hello Neighbor. Now maybe Dynamic Pixels thought that if players found the seed and planted it the tree would have grown by the time they get through all the puzzle solving, searching, hiding and running away from the Neighbor. This isn’t guaranteed as the seed was pretty much the last thing X35 Earthwalker found so that means he had nothing to do while waiting for the tree to grow. It’s suppose to give a golden apple we believe. So didn’t like the tree mechanic at all.

Act three was ruined. This is because Act three is exactly the same as the beta that the developers released for gamers to play. This means that a bunch of people already knew what to do because either they played that version of the beta or they watched CoryxKenshin and Markiplier play through the whole thing. We think this is a fail on the developers side. We get that maybe they wanted to make sure everything worked properly but you can’t release an the whole actual level of Act 3 of the game as a beta. The thing is, this didn’t have much effect on us because we never played the beta so it was sort of new for us. Which is why we spent a long time trying to solve everything and do every puzzle bit by bit.

Next is how cryptic Act 3 is. Now we know that the puzzles do force gamers to slow it down and start thinking but this was too much for many. For starters unlike Act 1 we have no clues of what to do. The only ones who do know played the Hello Neighbor beta or watched it. Finding the mannequins was a hard task. One of them you can’r reach until you get a code which must be inputted through buttons on the wall. You need binoculars to see far and find the code yourself. Another mannequin is hiding in the highest room of the house directly in front of you from the front of your house. How was anyone suppose to know that one is up there? You can’t see the mannequin through the window. You need to firstly use an object and super throw something to smash open the window. Then get to the top of the house and jump of with an umbrella (which surprisingly can support our weight) and glide through the window to the grab the mannequin. Finding the four cakes is no easier and getting the gramophone with the red record wasn’t easy either. You have to get the globe, then freeze the globe, then place it back on it’s stand and then race to the top before the ice melts to get it. First of all you can’t just place the globe, you have to use the interact button to snap it in. Also the only clue we get about this globe freezing water thing is a map next to the globe which has a pin on the Antarctica. Cryptic anyone?

Hello Neighbor leaves to many things unexplained. How did the Neighbor’s children go missing? We see him crying by some missing posters. Worse we also see something dark, glowing white eyes and an evil presence watching the neighbor. What is this thing? we have seen it more than once in the game but no explanation as to what it is. Is it a symbol as in just showing that the neighbor has his own demons. Or does it represent the one who stole his children? In Act one we saw the neighbor lock something in the basement. When we get in there, we don’t see anyone or anything. He wasn’t wrestling with the air right? After being trapped in the room if you look through the keyhole, you will see a cardboard cut out of a boy rise up and unlock the door for you, allowing you to escape. Cardboard can’t do that by itsself. We don’t know what happened to the neighbor but he seems sad at times like at the end when he sees us through the window, like we mean something to him which is strange. We get an achievement which says “like father, like son”. So who’s the father and who’s the son? It can’t be the character we play as we got kidnapped by him and we ran away like he’s a stranger. Why wouldn’t he recognised the neighbor as his dada if that’s the case. maybe he was too young and didn’t know? Then why would he live exactly opposite from the neighbor. We know that the neighbours wife died and so our characters mum couldn’t be the neighbours wife. Also if we were adopted or taken away by social services then why are we put on a poster as missing or living directly opposite the man? We have come up with some awesome theories but they are all just theories… a game theory (Sorry guys). Too much questions.

Lastly is how the Hello Neighbor ends. After protecting a young version of our self from a giant dark entity we have a quiet place with just a door and a part of the neighbours house. The neighbor looks sad and has a dark entity knocking on his door. If we go through the other door the character wakes up and starts moving his things into his house to live there again. We then watch a continuous loop of the character carrying boxes. nothing else, no hidden cutscene after the credits. Nothing! This was incredibly disappointing because of all the questions we are left with. It wasn’t satisfying at all. Now we are aware that a game like Hello Neighbor has to have secrets and hidden things that will give more clues or information. We know there has to be more but a standard player wouldn’t find those things but instead wait for others to find to find it. Like seriously we first think the neighbor is all bad but then we learn he lost his wife, kids go missing and has something dark haunting him by the looks of it. He looks sad when he sees us and tried to approach us but couldn’t. What happened to him? Is he okay? his house is burned down. Too many questions.

Overall we did have a lot of fun playing the Hello Neighbor but we were disappointed for sure. Too cryptic, three hour waiting tree, so many questions, glitches here and there, not an epic boss battle, too many unanswered questions and a unsatisfying ending. Off course just highlighting the bigger stuff Hello Neighbor. We were really disappointed with the game. It was still fun with many laughing moments but disappointed.
